Summer

Gritt’s summer events center around Mountain Biking, built on the foundations of our local trail networks and rooted in community, central to our own journeys on bikes.

Alongside mountain biking, our summer programmes introduce climbing and hunting/outdoor fundamentals which are designed to build environmental awareness, confidence, and self‑reliance.

Delivered through our experienced coaches and outdoor professionals, Gritt’s summer camps provide a safe, supportive, and values‑driven educational environment for youth to grow.

Mountain Biking

Mountain Bike camps bring together riding, coaching, mentoring, and community, building an empowering, progression-focused environment across two-to-three-day formats. Delivered by elite coaches across local trail networks, the camps create supportive environments where young riders can build skills, confidence, and a lasting connection to mountain biking.

Camps go beyond riding technique, with participants developing core technical skills, alongside physical performance and personal resilience. Mentorship and shared experiences are central, helping riders progress safely while learning how to support one another.

As an extension to or existing camps, the Girls Mountain Biking Camp was created to provide a supportive, female‑led space where young women can learn, progress, and belong. With top female athletes and coaches as mentors, the camp focuses on confidence, representation, and connection—showing they have a place in the sport and clear pathways forward both on and off the bike.

Hunting

Hunting Camps are designed in collaboration with local hunting professionals to introduce youth to core outdoor skills, and conservation ethics associated with hunting in a safe and supportive environment across a two-day format based out of Island Hills Station.

Participants will learn practical bush skills including basic outdoor safety and bushcraft, navigation using maps and terrain features, gear preparation, glassing, tracking and stalking skills, and key tips and tricks for game handling, preparation and management.

All activities are focused on non-firearms specific skills, with any firearms being handled by professional, with the event seeking to build confidence, teamwork, and respect for New Zealand's natural environment.

Climbing

Our community climbing events are one day community events built around the fundamental concept that nature facilitates and necessitates movement, which provides us with the perfect learning ground. It is within our directive to then ensure we preserve nature so that the next generation may have the same opportunity. These events are formed around two key pillars:

Pillar One - Kai Tiaki (Guardianship):
The first pillar will provide attendees with a strong understanding of the history associated with the area and the ethical practices in place to protect and preserve the environment for future generations can enjoy.

Pillar Two - Learning through Movement:

The second pillar is climbing centric, with a focus on the introduction and development of movement specific to the area, through targeted support and coaching for progression and discovery, and collaborative learning and discussion.
