Winter

GRITT_MO_HR-36.jpg

Gritt’s winter events were founded in the Canterbury club fields — places rooted in community and central to our own journeys in the mountains. These environments continue to shape our purpose: developing community, breaking down financial barriers, sharing knowledge, and creating opportunities for young people to thrive.

Our first winter camps focused on freeride progression and have since evolved into a broader development platform built on performance, safety, and personal growth. These camps have supported the emergence of globally recognised athletes and industry professionals.

In response to a clear need for accessible avalanche education, Gritt’s backcountry camps were created in partnership with local guiding companies. Designed specifically for youth, these camps develop core mountain skills while connecting participants with experienced industry professionals in a safe and supportive environment.

Freeride Camps

Supported by Atomic & Arc'teryx

Freeride camps consist of two days of on snow development and an evening educational session led by our world class coaches.

Learn and develop key skills including technical skiing, terrain management, jumps & tricks, avalanche awareness, and building core freeride competition skills all while making friends for life.

Staying at the on-mountain lodging overnight is recommended to partake in the evening session covering athlete skills such as sponsorship, filming, and safety in the backcountry.

Avalanche Education

Supported by POC

Avalanche education camps are two-day camps focused on developing core skills with a freeride focus alongside alpine professionals and Gritt's freeride coaches.

Learn specific skills centered around trip planning, terrain management, decision making and practical field and rescue skills while earning an ASC-1 Qualification.

The concept for these camps comes from a growing need to equip the next generation of freeriders with the knowledge and decision-making skills as they access and explore more complex terrain and provide pathways into passion driven careers.
