Innsbruck Community Day 2026
Captured by Felix Klein The Gritt Community Freeride Day brought the Innsbruck freeride scene together for a bluebird day at Axamer Lizum, just 25 minutes outside Innsbruck city. Organised by Gritt with Support from The Peanut Butter Club — a women’s snow community based in IBK . The goal was simple: bring people together, share some laps, and create space for new connections on the mountain. After a challenging season marked by unstable snowpacks and high avalanche risk, con

Backcountry Safety Camps 2025
For 2025 the POC Backcountry Safety Camps expanded to two camps, one at Craigieburn and a second at The Remarkables. This gave more young adults access to backcountry and avalanche safety education targeted at their interests and learning style. Backing from the POC team made the camps possible and minimised cost to participants. The first camp slotted into the school holidays at The Remarkables, with Queenstown Mountain Guides. 8 young adults from the southern lakes had the

Broken River Snow Camp 2025
The 2025 Broken River Camp kicked off with stormy weather, which made for an apprehensive start. The day prior, wind and rain had given the ski field a little too much attention, so on arrival, everyone came in with flexible expectations about what we might find. But safe to say, we were all very pleasantly surprised! After an extra warm-up walk to Palmer Lodge, spirits lifted quickly as we were greeted by sunshine and perfect spring corn waiting to be harvested. The wind and

Mt Olympus Snow Camp 2025
Backing up the momentum from last year’s camp, the 2025 Mt Olympus Gritt Camp kicked off strong. With several top-ups the weekend prior and cold temps keeping things fresh, the snow was in stellar condition — dry, fast, and ready to be carved. We were welcomed by a perfect bluebird day, and some groms brimming with energy, bringing the stoke levels right from the start. Smiles all around, high-fives in the lift line, and that unmistakable buzz that comes when a crew knows it’

Community day at Ōpuke Mt Hutt
To finish the season we brought to life a new event concept. It was open invite, free of charge, meet on the hill, and we were blown away by the results. The idea came from wanting to get all ages and abilities together, and connecting people from different resorts in the region. With 50 attendees, it was an incredible day of fun, learning, rat packs and friendship. With a BBQ on the mountain we wrapped up the winter in kiwi style. The crew Craig Murray Harry Cookson Charlie

Broken River Snow Camp 2024
BR is one of our favourite camps. The community is always welcoming and we love connecting with the young skiers. Broken River Ski Club always provides the grassroots vibes while simultaneously facilitating high performance progression, and notorious lunches on the sundeck. Leading up to the Broken River camp the snow conditions had been turbulent. Luckily skiing at BR is not all about the conditions, but about the adventure and sharing it with like-minded people. The 2024

Mt Olympus Snow Camp 2024
The 2024 Gritt Coaching Camps literally got off to a rocky start with Mt Olympus unable to open for the planned event due to lack of snow. Being no strangers to the reliability of a New Zealand ski season in the Clubbies, we managed to juggle various commitments and NZJFT dates to find a backup in September. Without knowing it, these dates ended up being some of the better days of the season, although you wouldn't have picked that when we first arrived. Icy conditions and f

A New Kind of Avalanche Education for Kids - The POC Backcountry Safety Camp
Since Gritt’s beginnings safety, and in particular avalanche education, have been an important part of our work. We use our snow camps to give kids the first taster of avalanche awareness, however from our own past experiences and feedback from kids and parents we knew there was a lack of options for those kids to take the next step of formal avalanche and backcountry safety education. Fortunately POC, with their mission to improve safety in the outdoors, shared our vision.

2023 Snow Camps
The 2023 Gritt Coaching Camps were certainly one for the books. The warm weather and recent rain had the Canterbury Clubbies looking more tussock than snow, which resulted in multiple mountains pulling their closing day forward. This included Craigyburn Valley, which was the planned first stop. Luckily, we were able to move this camp to Broken River, which duly received a 40cm dump of snow on day 1. After the clouds parted, our all-star roster of coaches including Craig Murra
